Editor's note: It's been disappointing to see the decrease in participation in the fitness discipline, especially considering the fitness nationals are once again in Alberta. This alone should entice anyone with a dance or gymnastic background to use this show as a practice run for Albertas in June.

 

I was also quite disappointed with the turnout for Figure. For anyone close to Provincial Tier II level, this was a golden opportunity to step the process up one year. Although the bottom line is you wouldn't want to progress before your time, there was a wide window to qualify for Nationals within a 8 month period rather then the full year plus typically necessary. That said, Tier II will be very competitive if all qualified turn out in peak shape. Look for the twins, Terri and Tiffany Carroll, as well as a number of others to set the bar high as they will make an impact at the National show once they qualify in June.

The 2007 Muscle Beach Fall Classic was, once again, a big success, with 62 competitors gathering to compete on the Citadel Theater's MacLab stage.  This year marks the 9th year of the novice show, but the first ever to feature a ladies' Tier 1 Figure category. 

This definitely helped to boost both the number of competitors as well as spectators – especially since there were NO entries in the fitness division. 

Muscle beach 2007 included: Tier 1 Figure, Women's and Men's Masters bodybuilding, Women's and Men's Junior Bodybuilding, Men's Grand Masters bodybuilding, and Women's and Men's Open bodybuilding classes. 

There was a great showing from all over the province of Alberta.  The evening saw athletes from (alphabetically!): Derwent, Didsbury, Calgary, Calmar, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Hinton, Lethbridge, Sylvan Lake, and Westlock.  It seems that making the trip to Edmonton paid off for many of our out-of-town competitors, who qualified for the Provincial championships in 2008.
